Model Overview

The Changan Oshan Z6 New Energy is a C-segment plug-in hybrid SUV under the Changan Oshan marque, officially designated as the "Changan Oshan Z6 Smart Electric iDD". Making its official debut at the Chongqing Auto Show on 25 June 2022, the SUV represents the maiden model under Changan Oshan's electrification strategy. Both petrol and plug-in hybrid variants were introduced simultaneously, with the PHEV lineup offering three variants: 150KM Flagship, 150KM Flagship PLUS, and 150KM Flagship PLUS Smart Parking Edition, priced from RM155,800 to RM175,800. Subsequent promotional pricing brought the entry barrier down to between RM129,800 and RM145,800. Tailored for younger buyers, the model is targeted at family-oriented drivers seeking long-distance driving range, low fuel consumption, and advanced onboard tech.
Design Language
The Changan Oshan Z6 New Energy adopts the brand's "Prism Aesthetic" design language. The front fascia features a dual-layer frameless grille with a layered matrix effect, embellished with hourglass-inspired detailing for a futuristic and commanding presence. Sharp, angular headlamps blend seamlessly into the grille, while the trim accents on either side of the front bumper switch from red on the petrol version to blue, highlighting its electrified powertrain. In profile, the SUV sports a floating roof effect with a sloping fastback silhouette; the rear features a hollowed-out roof spoiler and a lower diffuser, with the exhaust system revised to a dual single-exit layout instead of the twin-pipe setup seen on the petrol sibling. In terms of exterior dimensions, it measures 4,699 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,680 mm in height, with a 2,795 mm wheelbase. The cockpit features a triple-screen layout consisting of a 10.3-inch full digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch floating infotainment touchscreen, and a 9.2-inch "Xiao Ou" auxiliary display. Interior colourways include a striking Flame Orange and Cool Black dual-tone theme, alongside a Grey-Beige option.
Powertrain and Performance
Under the skin, the Changan Oshan Z6 New Energy is powered by the Blue Whale iDD hybrid system, comprising a Blue Whale NE 1.5T hybrid-dedicated engine, a triple-clutch electric drive transmission, a high-capacity PHEV battery pack, and the iDD intelligent control management system. The 1.5-litre turbocharged engine produces 122 kW (166 PS) and 260 Nm of torque, paired with a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous electric motor that puts out 110 kW (150 PS) and 330 Nm. Drive is sent through a 6-speed triple-clutch electric drive transmission. Energy storage comes courtesy of a 28.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, using cells supplied by CATL or CALB. It yields an NEDC-rated pure electric range of 150 km and a WLTC-rated pure electric range of 130 km, with a full tank and full charge delivering an overall combined range of up to 1,200 km. In May 2023, the vehicle completed the "Full Tank, Full Charge Zibo Barbecue Endurance Challenge", clocking an impressive 1,304.4 km on a single run. Fuel consumption is rated at 0.7 L/100 km (NEDC) and 0.9 L/100 km (WLTC), with battery-depleted consumption hovering around 5.7 L/100 km. For charging, it comes standard with 43 kW DC fast charging and 6.6 kW AC charging, with a 30% to 80% DC charge completed in approximately 30 minutes; a 3.3 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) external power output function is also supported.
Chassis and Handling
In terms of underpinnings, the Changan Oshan Z6 New Energy utilizes a front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout. Suspension duties are handled by MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link independent setup at the rear, paired with an electric power steering (EPS) system. Braking is provided by ventilated discs at the front and solid discs at the rear, supported by an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB). For footwear, the Flagship variant rolls on 225/55 R19 tyres, while the Flagship PLUS and above variants are shod with larger 245/50 R20 tyres. The chassis is tuned with a comfort bias, effectively ironing out minor road chatter and tackling speed humps with composed body control and minimal rebound. Selectable driving modes include ECO, Comfort, and Sport.
Cockpit and Equipment
Inside, the Changan Oshan Z6 New Energy runs on the OnStyle 5.0 intelligent cockpit operating system. The three-screen setup comprises a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch floating infotainment screen, and a 9.2-inch Xiao Ou auxiliary screen. The infotainment system supports satellite navigation, telematics, facial recognition, voice command control, and Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates. High-spec variants also feature multi-finger gesture screen-casting. For comfort and convenience, standard kit across the range includes a panoramic glass roof, keyless entry with push-start button, and a 360-degree surround-view camera system. Seats are trimmed in faux leather, with power adjustment for the driver's seat fitted as standard; mid-to-high variants gain ventilated and heated front seats. Audio is handled by a 9-speaker Sony sound system on the range-topping variant. Other notable tech includes exterior voice control, an AR-HUD head-up display (on high-spec trims), and face ID authentication.
Safety and Driver Assistance
On the safety front, the Changan Oshan Z6 New Energy comes equipped with front airbags, front side airbags, and front/rear curtain airbags. Active safety systems fitted as standard include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Traction Control (TCS), and Electronic Stability Control (ESC). For Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), the Flagship variant includes Lane Departure Warning, front and rear parking sensors, and cruise control; the Flagship PLUS adds Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC); while the Flagship PLUS Smart Parking Edition further adds Blind Spot Detection / Lane Change Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and automated parking assist, delivering Level 2 semi-autonomous driving capability. In addition, the vehicle is equipped with the EaglePilot 7.0 voice-activated automated valet parking system.
Market Performance and Verdict
Upon its launch, the Changan Oshan Z6 New Energy enjoyed healthy initial market reception, propelled by its "Automotive Robot" marketing campaign and long-range PHEV positioning. However, amid internal brand restructuring and intensifying market competition, deliveries faced a sustained downward trend. By April 2025, monthly sales of the Oshan Z6 iDD slipped to just 148 units, dropping further to 6 units in September 2025, before bottoming out at 2 units in December 2025. Owner feedback has consistently highlighted praise for its spacious cabin (with the 2,795 mm wheelbase proving a clear standout in the C-SUV segment), the daily usability of its 150 km pure EV range, and its generous suite of tech amenities. Conversely, some users noted noticeable tyre and wind noise at highway speeds, a slightly firm ride over harsher potholes, and occasional stutters when loading the navigation app via the infotainment unit. On the whole, as the opening chapter of the Oshan sub-brand's electrification push, the Changan Oshan Z6 New Energy offered a competitive package courtesy of its Blue Whale iDD hybrid system, large 28.4 kWh battery, and 150 km EV range; nevertheless, as market dynamics shifted and EV competition heated up, the model has gradually faded from the automotive mainstream.
